Why?
Because you — a one in a million employer — might ruin a career if they don’t?
And you’re proud of this so you’re flexing your power in the relationship? If workers don’t kiss your ring then they deserve to have their lives and their family’s lives ruined because they didn’t show you courtesy?
“Please, sir, may I have some more?”
Do you think what you are doing is fair?
Do you think you have any obligation to be fair to the people who earn you money and build your company? You get your feelings hurt or are inconvenienced so you damage someone’s entire career and cost them a possible dream job — maybe even make them homeles s— over something they have no legal obligation to do?
Despite trying to keep someone from landing a job being illegal in many states, it’s coercion and part of the exploitation of labor. And you’re okay with that.
In truth, you don’t view your employees as equals. You frame yourself as a dictator, albeit a beneficent one. You don’t see that your employees make the company money and THEY are the source of your profit. You probably think it’s your good ideas and great leadership that earns revenues. Frankly, if you were as good a boss as you think you are, your employees would never leave.
I am willing to bet when you’re out of town for a few days, your company still runs (assuming it’s a small business and not a mom-and-pop). But if your employees aren’t there, you make nothing. Just ignore that.
You need to think about the fucking damage you are causing people who created your wealth so they could survive. They have bills to pay, kids to feed, healthcare needs which you would strip away from them because they didn’t give you notice.
Your actions are saying that people who piss you off deserve to be homeless and their families should suffer long after they have severed a relationship with you — for nothing more than making you unhappy and not kissing your ass.
God, I would hate to have your karma.
