Telling people to buy only 2 packages of rice because someone else might not get enough for their family defeats the purpose -- to have food on hand so you don’t need to go to the store.
Instead of chastising people for stocking up, we should be talking about buying before there is a shortage. That is what puts the “prepared" in prepping. That ship has sailed, let’s address what they could do now.
Households should have a decent amount of rice and dried beans, stored in the freezer to kill bugs, then vacuum sealed. And not just 5 pounds, but 20 pounds of each. Many people didn’t buy ahead of time simply because there was plenty on the shelf. When panic buying began, they should have bought oil, flour, yeast and salt to add to their rice and beans.
