God lied and the serpent spoke the truth.

Take a moment and think about the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. In your mind, briefly summarize the high points.

What you imagine is not correct.

How the Story Goes

If you’re like most people, you believe the narrative goes something like this:

God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, instructing the couple to not eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge. A serpent deceived Eve into eating an apple, she convinced Adam to take bite as well. God was angry with the couple for disobeying Him so they were banished.

This is the version that is taught in Sunday School, what preachers tell us from the pulpit, and what is deeply ingrained in Western culture.

It’s also wrong.

The first book of the Bible, the “genesis” of civilization is misunderstood by clergy and public alike. In fact, this one story supports the Gnostic narrative of creation more than the Christian version.

Let’s Look At Genesis
