There was a recent study about the intensity of hurricanes.
“A new paper, published online May 18 in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, aims to change that — studying a period of 39 years. . .the researchers found a clear trend: Storms are getting stronger in general, and major tropical cyclones are coming more often.” — Live Science
Let me help you out here with a visual. What happens when you put an ice cube in a very cold glass of water versus a warm one? Think of the ice cubes as glaciers and Antarctica’s ice sheet and the water as an ocean.
Sea level rise may have been constant in the past, but it won’t be in the future. We will have a dramatic increase from any of the half dozen climate change events predicted. One is the Blue Ocean Event that will probably occur this year. See ice cube analogy above. That’s not something in 2100. It’s happening now. It will significantly speed up these processes.
The alarms from scientists aren’t about what is occurring now. It’s a warning about a runaway situation that once it begins can’t be stopped.
In South Florida, sea level rise isn’t about a loss of real estate (I know many people think that’s all there is to it). It’s about the loss of the ability to live there. It takes more than just land to support a population.
It isn’t about the sea water. It’s about disruption to the system. Miami is the world’s busiest seaport and requires 100k workers to keep it moving. So higher sea levels don’t seem like a big deal to a port. The problem isn’t about bringing in ships — it’s about all the cargo coming off ships and all the people and equipment required to operate a port.
The biggest issue will be fresh water. And sewer systems. It’s all about the infrastructure. Are we going to relocate a bunch of roads and build bridges so people can continue living in an area that is uninhabitable? Are you willing to have government invest money rebuilding in disaster prone areas? I am not.
You probably don’t want to really discuss this because you don’t seem to be looking for the truth, but validation of your beliefs. If you would like to have a mutually beneficial exchange of ideas, let me know.
If not, I wish you well.
