The Titan disaster would happen in your workplace if your employer was permitted to operate without regulations.
The Oceangate tragedy is what happens when the rich and powerful are allowed unfettered control over business.
If they could force you to work without pay, they would. If they can legally pay you less than minimum wage, they will.
This is a glimpse into the mindset of corporate leaders when they are successful in removing the few constraints imposed upon their industry. They would knowingly make decisions that would kill you if it meant they might earn a bit more profit.
This is the goal of deregulation — the ability to make decisions without regard for any consideration other than serving their naked greed.
Somewhere in hell, George Carlin is rejoicing. I am not here to talk about the moral questions about our obsession with this news event. That debate is already raging.
I want us to talk about the much bigger picture — the unrelenting push toward deregulation by wealthy and influential business owners.
