Shortened attention span has nothing to do with intelligence. It does have to do with how we consume info.

Your stuff is not easy to read.

It is not the topic or argument, it is how it is presented.

Umair is probably pulling down well over $5k a month. He isn’t even a very good writer, his arguments fall flat, but he understands the formula. Is it fair? Nope.

He has a brand. You don’t. It isn’t the topic, it isn’t what you are advocating. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

You want to people to read your work, then you play the game to get attention. Otherwise, it is nothing more than lofty journaling.

People open up a story. They look at the pic, read the headline and two lines of text. If it grabs their attention, they stay.

They open your story, see a giant block of text. It is 12 lines when the recommended is one or two. You use the following words:

unique

engineering

function

legislative

This tells the reader -- who has been conditioned to read for entertainment and pleasure -- that your article is work. It is a pain in the ass. I didn’t read it and I am interested in the subject. Your arguments are sound. I didn’t realize that how we elect Senators had changed the authority of the states.

You want to test out my theory? I edited your article. You publish it, and I will promote your story. Or I can publish it as my own if you think my editing is shit. Either way.

Then we will compare the read rates. Here’s is the edited version.

Let me know if you are game.
