Ok, here is the thing. It is a huge hassle to hit $100. Most people give up before they reach it. But above $100 is wide open.

It isn’t about making money off Medium, but establishing a brand. That is the only way to be successful. It doesn’t matter if you freelance for magazines, ghost write or publish a novel. Half your time needs to be spent marketing.

Recently, I started working LinkedIn. Before I hit 1,000 followers, I had three people contact me about work. Because I have a small social media following, I am giving a radio interview about writing. It is slow going, but it works as long as you grow your following. By the end of this year, my writing will support me.

I wish I could say that as long as you write something tremendous you will succeed. Be a better writer wont translate into money. The truth is that your skill at playing the marketing and promotional game is far more important.
