I am sorry, but your numbers don’t add up.
You said you worked part-time at 30 hours a week. You probably weren’t writing during all those hiking vacations, but let’s assume you were.
You were obviously doing your bookkeeping and marketing work, which by my rule of thumb is at least one-half your working hours. I know it is actually more like 80/20. That means you would have to pull down about $150 an hour on average.
This means for every job you accepted at $50 an hour, you had to have other jobs making $250 an hour to balance it out. I was lucky to get $100 an hour for ghost writing so if you could easily command $250 an hour, I doubt you would waste your time on Medium. I certainly didn’t when I had 5 hours a day at $100 an hour.
It sure seems like you already had some high paying clients or extensive contacts in the industry. What does your husband do? I don’t feel like this is the whole story.
