Do You Dream of Giving up Technology?

I look forward to the day where I can get off this crazy ride

Does anyone else fantasize about turning their back on all this technology and filling it with nature?

My goal isn’t to become a Neo-Luddite squatting in the mud and rejecting that evil ‘lectricity. I don’t want to be like my parents’ generation who struggle to understand words like “mouse”, “desktop”, or the scariest of them all — “URL”.

I want to be rid of the constant anxiety of perpetually gaining knowledge out of the threat of irrelevance, disadvantage, or financial ruin.

My fairly strong attachment to a comfortable life of eating and living indoors makes it impossible turn my back on the screen. But I still dream of a life not dictated by whether or not I am able to use technology.

So, I plug along and sharpen my skills and resign myself to a life controlled by cyberspace.

Ironically, I work in Tech.

In the early days of the Internet, do-gooders made the talk show rounds to spread their gospel of hand-wringing over the “epidemic of addiction to devices.” Ooohhh, scary. Parents were warned to limit children’s screen time to less than an hour today. Yeah, no one listened back then, either.
