Companies are not loyal to their employees.
Workers do not owe any more than what they are given.
Respect my time, I respect your clock. Don’t steal my wages, I won’t slack off. Give me an opportunity to advance, I will care about the future of this company. Give me unrealistic goals and there is no incentive for me to work hard to try and achieve them.
It’s quite simple.
Companies are not doing workers a favor by granting them a job. This is a mutually beneficial relationship, but employers didn’t read the memo.
If employers don’t offer a reason for workers to invest their careers with the organization, why would anyone expect those same workers to give a shit about where the company is headed? If I know I have to jump ship in two years to get any more money, do you think I am going to bother to even read the internal marketing crap you send? If I am leaving anyway, why would I bother to learn your name much less listen to the lies we both know you’re spewing?
If employees don’t benefit from increased production, how stupid does management have to be to think they are going to work harder? They will merely pretend to do so, just like management pretends to care about workers.
After decades of bullshit “we are family” propaganda and empty promises, why is anyone surprised when employees blatantly lie and cheat while feeding management the same line of bullshit? If the company doesn’t respect honesty, why would they think the employees would?
If your company can’t get good employees, if good employers go to competitors, if your workers don’t give a shit, that’s a failure on the people who have the power — and responsibility to change it. Management.
There are exponentially more quality workers available for any job than there are quality employers for top candidates. Companies have the power, resources, time, and skill to change this overnight. If they don’t, it’s because they don’t want to.
Give me any company like Amazon, McDonald’s, Acme Widgets, and I can show you how to have highly motivated, caring workers and still turn a profit.
It’s not rocket science. Just stop being greedy assholes.
