As great as it sounds, you aren’t going to be successful.

These people support Trump because they align with his approach. It isn’t about truth or love of country, it isn’t that they are doing what they think is right.

They have said it all along. It’s about winning.

Trump isnt enacting his policies, what he is doing is propping up an image of himself where he is smart and adored, where he is powerful and successful. Anything, and I mean anything, which challenges his constructed view of reality is discarded, denied, and invalidated.

It’s a hoax, it’s fake news, it’s wrong.

His followers parrot this exact same behavior. You cannot get a Trumpet to acknowledge reality, they will simply ignore it by retreating to whataboutism. If that doesn’t work, they simply shut down. They parrot his talking points because Trumpism is a mental illness.

I had one bitching about Hillary’s emails that I confronted. I asked them if they believed that this was such a heinous crime, why weren’t they screaming about Ivanka doing the same thing? They went back to how Hillary was never investigated and it was a crime, so I agreed and asked if Ivanka should be tried as well? They said they didn’t know anything about it, so it was “fake news.”

You and I discuss these things because we are talking about facts. What happened, who did it, patterns. They are arguing about feelings. How do I win, what I can say to make you lose, why my team is better.

Facts don’t matter. The truth doesn’t matter. What does matter is winning and protecting the delusion of themselves. This isn’t a difference of political opinion. You are trying to reason your way with someone in the throes of mental illness.

You are never going to reach them with truth or facts, because they right.
